More than 300 elected and appointed local government officials registered for the 11th Ethics in Government conference sponsored by Attorney General Nixon in Jefferson City on July 10.
Participants heard presentations by assistant attorneys general with expertise in such areas as the Sunshine law, nepotism, the Americans with Disabilities Act, environmental issues, consumer protection issues, sovereign immunity, sexual harassment, employment issues, and the effect of the Hancock Amendment on local governments. A panel of three experienced journalists also provide their perspectives on the Sunshine law and answered questions from conference participants.
More than 2,100 local officials have attended the free all-days conferences that Nixon has offered since 1996.
As he has done since taking office in 1993, Attorney General Jay Nixon traveled to Warrensburg on June 15 to speak to the hundreds of young men who come there each year as citizens of Missouri Boys State. Recognizing that these young men will be the leaders of tomorrow, Nixon spoke to them about leadership and pursuing goals of public service. The citizens of Boys State then were able to ask the Attorney General questions for about an hour. (Photo by Sara Miller, courtesy of Missouri Boys State)
